Therapeutic Horticulture
Facilitate wide-ranging therapeutic horticulture activities to promote well-being

Illustrated by Nature Kakis Youth Stewards
Nature, greenery, and its benefits should be enjoyed by all, regardless of age or ability. Therapeutic horticulture programmes can be designed to enhance access to nature and its well-being benefits for elderly groups, persons with dementia and persons with special needs. Under the Parks for Health framework, NParks seeks to expand access to therapeutic horticulture among other nature-based programmes to enhance community well-being.
Therapeutic horticulture uses plants and nature-related activities to improve the well-being of participants. Programmes can improve participants’ motor skills, stimulate their memory, and encourage positive social interactions with nature.
Therapeutic gardens in parks and gardens across Singapore provide serene and tranquil activity spaces for therapeutic horticulture activities. These gardens are designed based on scientific research to facilitate interactions with nature and improve the well-being of its visitors.
Nature Kakis can:
Design and facilitate therapeutic horticulture programmes in both indoor and outdoor community spaces, such as classrooms and Active Ageing Centres (AACs)
Organise walks with the community to explore the different sensory zones and features in therapeutic gardens across Singapore’s parks
Incorporate therapeutic garden elements in green spaces closer to home such as community gardens to enhance their benefits for the community

Examples of therapeutic horticulture activities include:
Gardening (pruning/watering/weeding)
