Grow and share the community spirit through gardening

Illustrated by Nature Kakis Youth Stewards
Community in Bloom is a nationwide gardening movement started by NParks in 2005. It seeks to promote community spirit and a gardening culture among Singapore residents, young and old.
Community gardens can be found in the heartlands, within private estates, schools, and organisations, serving a wide variety of functions for their communities. Besides growing edible plants, they may also feature plants that support local biodiversity, for use in therapeutic horticulture, and for sharing with the community as cuttings or seeds.
Nature Kakis can:
Champion or co-lead with community gardeners to develop community gardens in their precinct under the Community in Bloom programme
Join and collaborate with community gardens to engage communities in gardening activities together
Empower more community gardeners to share their gardening experiences with the community through garden visits, workshops and talks, under the Grow and Share initiative
Examples of Community in Bloom projects include:
Garden open houses
Having an open house at a community garden is a great way to bring people together to learn more about plants and greenery!

Harvest sharing
Nature Kakis can organise harvest sharing events with other community groups, to foster social connections and encourage a culture of sharing resources and knowledge in the community.

Planting for biodiversity
Growing plants that provide food and nesting materials for local biodiversity have several benefits. These plants can attract and support various forms of wildlife, including butterflies, bees, and birds. Besides enhancing the natural environment, they provide opportunities for the community to appreciate the diverse wildlife that can thrive in their local area.
