Community Animal Management
Promote responsible pet ownership and care for community animals

Illustrated by Nature Kakis Youth Stewards
Pets and community animals are an important part of many people's lives, and are also an integral part of many communities. Promoting responsible pet ownership and living in harmony with community animals is essential for improving animal health and welfare in our urban environment.
Nature Kakis can:
Organise educational outreach programmes on responsible pet ownership for current and potential pet owners, raising awareness on AVS pet care guidelines
Educate residents on living in harmony with community animals, such as best practices for co-existing with community cats and dogs in the neighbourhood
Plan and execute engagement events tailored to the community, such as social media campaigns and collaborations with pet interest groups

Examples of community animal projects include:
Managing community cats feeding
Many communities have dedicated volunteers that look after and feed community cats. Nature Kakis can help to designate feeding corners and raise awareness on responsible feeding practices of community animals to keep common spaces clean.

Improving pet welfare
Knowledge is power! Nature Kakis Chapters can become hubs for information on responsible pet ownership, and provide tips on improving pet welfare. By sharing best practices on proper animal care, communities can improve the lives of animals.

Community pet walks
Have you ever thought of bringing pets along for walks in nature with your community? Nature Kakis organise community pet walks to bond with neighbours and encourage fellow pet owners to adopt better leash discipline and pet etiquette. Kindly note that while pets can be taken to most green spaces, they are not allowed in Nature Parks and Nature Reserves as these spaces have sensitive wildlife.

Raising awareness on illegal wildlife trade
Not all animals can be kept as pets! It is illegal to keep wildlife as pets, and purchasing such animals will continue to fuel the illegal wildlife trade. Raising awareness on what animals are suitable for pet ownership contributes to reducing incidences of poaching and helps wildlife in Singapore and beyond.
