Inductions and Learning Journeys
NParks organises networking and capacity-building events each year, gathering Nature Kakis across the network to connect and exchange best practices in their respective Chapters. Sessions may be curated around key City in Nature themes or may focus on soft skills that facilitate effective engagement.
Induction programmes feature hands-on interactive segments and engage subject matter experts from various NParks line divisions or relevant agencies, serving as a launchpad for Nature Kakis into NParks' work and potential roles of the community in different programmes. The sessions aim to equip Nature Kakis with a comprehensive understanding of nature-related topics and community involvement, as well as the necessary skills to lead City in Nature activities.
These sessions also connect Nature Kakis with other community and agency partners, invited as participants and/or speakers to offer differ perspectives and further insight to relevant topics. Past sessions have engaged nature groups and volunteers from other NParks programmes, as well as Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and Housing Development Board (HDB) for inductions on urban planning.
Learning journeys, piloted in 2025, engage the Network in a new format of gathering and co-learning, evolving from the first iterations of induction programmes. Learning journeys are co-organised with rotating Nature Kakis Chapter hosts who shape programmes around their Chapter's own unique strengths and contexts. This evolved model facilitates sharing of best practices by fellow Nature Kakis, through experiences of City in Nature from within neighbourhoods of different Chapters — from community gardening at the rooftop of a public housing estate, to organising nature walks in a park at one's doorstep.
Under the Youth Stewards for Nature programme, hosting Chapters are supported by a group of Nature Kakis youth stewards, whom they co-mentor alongside experienced NParks mentors.

Topical Trainings
Topical trainings with experienced NParks subject experts and community leaders are arranged based on Chapters’ interests, with durations and contents customised to each Chapter's needs. These provide in-depth training on specific topics such as nature conservation, human-wildlife matters, local biodiversity, gardening, therapeutic horticulture, and community animals.
All trainings seek to equip Nature Kakis with the relevant skills and knowledge to self-organise City in Nature-related activities in their communities. Through hands-on sessions, Nature Kakis gain practical skills in event planning, facilitation and community engagement.
Examples of training topics and goals; actual sessions might vary
Topic | Training goals |
|---|---|
DIY Nature Walks | Learn how to be a nature guide on organised training walks. |
Community Animals | Learn about issues surrounding community animals and pets in Singapore and get equipped with skills to help address them. |
Biodiversity and Wildlife | Learn how to facilitate citizen science activities. |
OneMillionTrees Movement | Learn to organise and facilitate tree planting activities in the community as a OneMillionTrees facilitator. |
Further Development
As Nature Kakis progress through the different training programmes, they will develop the skills and knowledge to bring more City in Nature initiatives into the heartlands, and lead activities for the community and by the community.
Each established Chapter receives a Nature Kakis publicity starter kit to support outreach efforts in their communities (inclusive of one pull-up banner, one A4 poster with board backing, and collar pins for Chapter members).
Established Chapters may also apply for the Nature Kakis Seed Fund to support the planning and implementation of their programmes.
